INTERVIEW WITH MUADHIN OF MASJID AL HARAM SHEIKH AHMED NUHAS


WHAT IS THE RANK OF THE ONE WHO CALLS PEOPLE TO PRAYER (THE MUADHIN) ?

Allah has honoured us by giving us the opportunity to call people to prayer in His house. For the one giving out the call to prayer has a great privilege and reward from Allah. There is nothing from amongst the trees, mankind, animals or anything inanimate that hears this call to prayer except that they will be a witness in favour of the caller of prayer on the Day of Judgement. In the case of the callers to prayer of Masjid Al Haram, Allah has blessed them by allowing their call to be heard from everywhere around the world.

WHAT ADVANTAGE IS THERE BY ANNOUNCING THE CALL TO PRAYER ADHAAN IN MASJID AL HARAM?

To be the caller of prayer in Masjid Al Haram is a great excellence, and this great advantage is due to the fact that the caller's body is directly facing the Ka'bah (without any barriers] when announcing the call to prayer. This is a great honour from Allah that not many who call to prayer are blessed with. This is a noble honour by which Allah grants privilege.


ARE THERE OTHER ADVANTAGES FOR THE ONE WHO CALLS FOR PRAYER (MUADHIN) IN MASJID AL HARAM?

Another advantage of being a caller to prayer in Masjid Al Haram is that many things that are here are from paradise, which will testify on the Day of Judgement for the one who calls out for prayer; such as the Black Stone, Maqam Ibrahim and the water of Zam Zam. All of these things are from paradise and they will give testimony of faith on the Day of Judgement for the one giving out the call to prayer.

WHY ARE THE PROCLAMATIONS OF THE IMAM REPEATED BY ANOTHER I.E. TABLEEGH DURING SALAH?

The Tableegh which is the repetition of what the Imam calls out when changing postures in Salah was first introduced when the Prophet Of Allah fell ill near the end of his life. Abu Bakr Siddiq Radhiyallahu Anhu would do 'Tableegh' behind the Prophet Of Allah so that others could hear him due to the illness and weakness in the voice of the Prophet Of Allah. Hence, this was the first time that this 'Tableegh' was enacted.


WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA OF BECOMING A CALLER TO PRAYER IN MASJID AL HARAM?

In order to be chosen for such a great honour, it is necessary for the contender to possess a few distinctive qualities: The most important from amongst them is the power of the voice and its loudness. Secondly, the person should have eloquence in speech i.e. can render letters from their correct places of pronunciation. On top of this, beauty of the voice is needed, which is from the important required qualities, especially in Masjid Al Haram. In addition, the person should have trustworthiness with regards to the entering and leaving of the time of Salah, which I can say that with the will of Allah, we are very precise in this regard. We are thankful to the authorities who are linked with the news agencies for their efforts in giving us the necessary information with regards to the timings of Salah. Therefore, with the will of Allah, we will remain able to give the call for prayer promptly and precisely. All praise belongs to Allah for this blessing.

SHEIKH ABDUL RAHMAN AS SUDAIS

BIOGRAPHY OF SHEIKH ABDUL RAHMAN BIN ABDULAZIZ BIN ABDULLAH SUDAIS He was born in the city of Riyadh in the year 1382AH where he lived for a duration of time. He memorised the Holy Quran at the age of 12. He graduated from the college of Sharia Law in Riyadh in the year 1403H. He was appointed as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence. He acquired a distinction in his Master’s Degree from the College of Shariah Islamic law at the Islamic University of Imam Muhammad Bin Sa’ud within the year 1408AH. He then proceeded for his doctorate degree in College of Shariah Islamic Law at Umm Al Qurra University where he graduated with a distinction within the year 1416AH. He was appointed as an Associate Professor at the same University, thereafter became a Professor in the year 1433AH where he specialized in the Principles of Jurisprudence.
